Styrofoam (Polystyrene) is used often for decorations and disposable plates. Chances are it will be dumped into the environment as litter. It takes over 100 years to decompose, leaches many harmful chemicals into the ground and breaks into pieces that can choke animals. There are healthy and safe alternatives that actually look and feel like styrofoam only it is made from cornstarch and sugar cane.
